What is Fabric reinforcement?

When two or more layers of fabric are vulcanized into rubber at certain points it is referred to as fabric reinforcement. The fabrics used are polyester, rayon and fiberglass. There are different types of reinforcement that is based on the type of polymer and where it is going to be used. 

The benefits of fabric reinforcement are the following:

•Improved dimensional stability

•Better mechanical strength

•Lower deflection 

When you need specific characteristics for your rubber sheeting application, you have to choose the right fabric. It will decide how your final outcome would be. For instance, using cotton fabric for an application where you need to seal a liquid is not appropriate because cotton would draw the liquid toward it. On similar lines, you can’t use a fabric that conducts electricity in an application for electrical insulation. The same applies for a flammable fabric for a flame-retardant application.
